APC Racing Series

The 2016 season for the APC Racing Series officially kicked off with the Meineke Car Care Center 100 at Flamboro Speedway. After a rainout delayed the season a few weeks ago at Sunset International Speedway the fans, drivers and sponsors were all equally as excited and the anticipation was as high as ever. Andrew Gresel (#81) scored the victory in the event after taking the lead from Jamie Cox (#22) on a lap 39 restart and never looked back.
In Bennett GM Pole Qualifying it would be Jamie Cox (#22) scoring fast time with a 15.200. Cox went late in qualifying and when it seemed nobody could knock defending series champion Dale Shaw (#83) off of the top spot his time fell. Andrew Gresel would qualify 3rd, Josh Stade (#17) 4th and Michael Gold (#79) 5th.
The 100 lap Meineke Car Car Center 100 started with Josh Stade on the pole after the pill draw with Michael Gold alongside of him. Quick Qualifier Jamie Cox started the race in the 4th position. On the initial start Gold would get a good jump and lead the race until lap 6 when Jamie Cox made a move to the inside for the spot. Trouble would strike on lap 11 for Michael Gold as his great start to the season was cut short with mechanical issues and he went to the pit area. The race would start with a 39 lap green flag run until the caution came out for Nick Goetz (#24) coming to a stop on the front straightaway, ending his night. Several cars would head to the pit area under the ensuing caution including Stade and rookie of the year contender Shae Gemmell (#3). On the initial restart disaster would strike for 2nd place runner Jason Parker (#8) as his car did not get up to speed and the entire outside line stacked up. Quick actions of drivers and spotters helped all cars escape without major damage.
The restart would lead to Andrew Gresel taking the lead as Cox got loose on the inside after spinning his tires. Once the green flag flew the race would go on another long run until the caution flew on lap 69 for a spin on the back straightaway by Tom Gibbons (#10). During the green run before the caution lots of action took over the race track including a pass for 3rd place by Dale Shaw over Shawn Chenoweth (#89c) and a hard charging Shawn McGlynn making several moves forward in his Meinke sponsored #23.
The restart on lap 69 would be the final as the race would run to completion from this point with Andrew Gresel slightly gaping Cox as he managed to hold off Shaw who was searching for a clean way around. Shawn Chenoweth held on for a 4th place finish in his London Recreational Racing Chevy SS and Matt Pritiko rounded out the top 5 in his Toyota Town #21.
The next event for the APC Series is Sunday June 12th as the tour invades Sunset Speedway for the make up event that was rained out in May. Full information on the event can be found online at www.APCRacingSeries.com
